Irish Born Chinese

{Congee}

Pronunciation: jook (Cantonese), hei faan (Mandarin)
A rice porridge that can be just plain, or have other ingredients such as meat, dried scallops, etc. added to it.

It's white, and thick like porridge.

Congee is normally eaten at breakfast with a deep-fried dough stick called yao jah gwai.

Plain congee is also eaten when one is ill and it's not too heavy.
