Well, being 2nd generation Chinese, I do notice that there are certain divides. We don't do it intentionally, but people just go to their own groups (not everyone, some do mix), but majority would. HK folks, Macauans, even different regions of Mainland Chinese have their own groups. Then other Asian groups like Malaysians, Singaporeans, Thais etc.. etc...
For some reason we just don't really hang with each other. It's like folks from D4 don't hang with someone from some troubled area, as an example (prob a bad one.. so sorry if I offended anyone!). Whether it is down to class, spoken language, whatever... but I find that 2nd generation would be much more open "other groups".
Triads can be a sensitive issue, which brings bad publicity to locals. But what's there is there, like any other gangs, and crime happens all the time. Chinese like to keep their heads down and keep their own business to themselves. It's our own issues, and resolving it or bearing with it is our own way. Local gardai does not really help, it's like the movies, they come when peeps that cause trouble are miles away.
So publicity is the last thing we need, and we like to keep to the background.
