Hi everyone!
I recently discovered this website and have been enjoying the forum, so thought it was about time I introduced myself.
I'm a Chinese American (well, Taiwanese American, to be exact) writer and am working on a book project about the overseas Chinese in different parts of the world -- from Indonesia to Australia to South Africa to Italy to Jamaica, etc.
My personal experience: I grew up in NYC and went to schools where most kids were, alternately, 1) black and/or Caribbean, 2) Jewish, and 3) from immigrant families. So, I've experienced some alienation but I feel pretty American most of the time. I was born in Taiwan, but didn't really speak that much Chinese until I moved to Beijing a couple years ago. And until I moved abroad, I had no idea there were so many Chinese people around the world!
I'm quite interested in the Irish Chinese (or Chinese Irish -- which way is it?) experience and would love to hear from people on the board.
I'm also chronicling my travels to Chinese communities around the world on my website ChinatownStories.com, so please check it out! And if you're keen to share your stories about growing up/being Chinese in Ireland, I'd love to feature you on the site!
Cheers,
Michelle
